Online payments

Hirers can pay their invoice online by card or Direct Debit, and HallPro marks it paid by itself when the money arrives. Connect one or more payment companies — Stripe (cards), SumUp (cards) or GoCardless (Direct Debit) — by ticking Enabled and pasting in the keys from their dashboard.

Then paste the webhook address shown under each one into that company’s dashboard. That is how HallPro hears a payment has gone through. HallPro can also check with Stripe and SumUp directly: “Check status” on the Invoices screen.

Each invoice email gets a Pay online link. It opens the hall’s payment page — a page on your website with [hallpro_pay] on it, which HallPro can make for you with one click. Without one, links still work and open a plain page with the payment on it.

Book and pay online, where hirers book and pay in one go, uses the same card payment companies. On the Standard plan.

1 Open an account with a payment company Stripe or SumUp for cards, GoCardless for Direct Debit. The hall's bank account goes in there, not in HallPro.

2 Paste in the keys On Invoicing & Payments, tick Enabled for that company and paste the keys from its dashboard.

3 Add the webhook address Copy the webhook address shown under it into the company's dashboard, so HallPro hears when a payment goes through.

4 Make the payment page Press "Make the payment page for me". Invoice emails then carry a Pay online link.

5 Try it in test mode Use the company's test keys and test card first, and check the invoice turns to paid by itself.

For example: The treasurer connects Stripe and presses “Make the payment page for me”. Mrs Patel’s invoice email now has a Pay online link; she pays £60 by card on her phone, and the invoice shows as paid on the Invoices screen a few seconds later.

The Pay online link just opened our home page.
That was how links worked before 0.51.0, unless [hallpro_pay] was on the home page. Links now go to your payment page, and older links open a page with the payment on it.

Somebody paid but the invoice still says unpaid.
Check the webhook address is in the payment company’s dashboard. For Stripe and SumUp, “Check status” on the Invoices screen asks them directly and marks it paid if it is.

Can we try it without taking real money?
Yes. Put in your payment company’s test keys first (Stripe calls it test mode), pay with their test card, and change to the live keys when you are happy.
