The committee app with no signal

The committee app keeps working when the phone has no signal: in the kitchen, the back room, or a hall with no wifi. On every plan.

What you can see. The app keeps a copy on the phone of every screen you open. With no signal, it shows the copy, with a bar at the bottom saying when it was saved. Open the screens you will need (Today, the door list, the job sheet) before you go, and they will be there.

What you can do. Letting people in at the door, keys given out and back, and faults (without photos) are kept on the phone and sent by themselves when the signal comes back; the bar says how many are waiting. Anything else (confirming or cancelling a booking, taking a payment) needs a signal, and the app says so rather than pretending.

Privacy. The copies are on your phone only, and are cleared when you log out. Clear them at any time on Settings in the app, under No signal. Share a phone with someone else? Log out when you have finished.

For example: The quiz night door list is opened on the treasurer’s phone at home. In the hall there is no signal, but the list is there; she lets 64 people in, and the bar says 64 changes waiting to send. When she steps outside at the interval they are sent, and the Hall events screen shows everyone in.

Questions people ask

It says the app is already installed, but it isn’t on my phone.
Chrome on Android sometimes remembers an app after it’s removed. Go to Settings → Apps → Chrome → Storage → Clear data, then add the app again.

Could two phones let the same person in twice?
Each phone only knows what it has done itself until the signal returns. At a busy door with no signal, use one phone for the list.

The app says the screen has not been opened on this phone before.
Nothing was saved for that screen yet. Open it once while you have a signal, and it will be there next time.
