A blunt blade is not a minor annoyance. It pulls instead of cutting, runs hot enough to burn, and turns a forty-minute groom into an hour of a dog being uncomfortable.

Count grooms, not days

A #10 through matted doodles is finished long before a #10 that has only done sanitary trims. A calendar reminder cannot tell the difference; a counter can.

Set your own life figures

The defaults are cautious. Your blades, your coats, your sharpener — adjust until the bar going red matches when you actually notice the pull.

1 Add your kit Blades and scissors, with a realistic life in grooms.
2 Press +1 as you use one Or correct the count by hand at the end of the week.
3 Reset when it comes back sharp The count starts again and the date is recorded.

FAQ

Why not just set a date?
Because two identical blades wear at completely different rates depending on what went through them. Time is the wrong unit.

What is a sensible life?
120 grooms is a cautious starting point for a blade and 200 for scissors. Adjust to what you actually see.
