Grid overlays add a visual indicator to every thumbnail in the WordPress Media Library grid, showing whether a file is in use or unlinked without opening the file.

Choose from 14 styles ranging from subtle colour tints to bold glow rings. The Used and Unused colours are fully customisable with hex colour pickers in the Overlay Colours section in Settings.

Overlays are applied via CSS classes injected into the Media Library page. They have no effect on your site’s front end.

Will overlays slow down the Media Library?
No. Overlays use lightweight CSS classes. Usage data is cached so no extra database queries run when browsing the grid.

The overlays aren’t appearing — why?
Run a scan first. Overlays are only applied to files that have been scanned. Newly uploaded files appear without an overlay until the next scan.

Can I turn off overlays without disabling the plugin?
Yes — select the “None” style option to disable overlays while keeping all other Media Library Manager features active.
