Using your own domain name with your hosted website
Your hosted website starts at yourname.modulefest.uk. If you own a domain, such as yourbusiness.co.uk, your website can use it instead. It takes three steps: you tell us, you change two settings at your domain company, and we switch your site over.
1. Start the wizard
Sign in at modulefest.com, go to Your account, and on your hosting licence press Connect your own domain. Enter the domain and choose whether the www. version or the plain one is your main address (both will work).
The wizard shows the two records below with your own values filled in, ready to copy.
2. Change two records at your domain company
Sign in where you bought or manage your domain (for example GoDaddy, 123 Reg, IONOS, Namecheap, Fasthosts or Cloudflare) and find its DNS settings (sometimes called DNS records, DNS zone or Manage DNS). Add or change these two records:
| Type | Nom / Hôte | Pointe vers / Valeur |
|---|---|---|
| A | @ (the domain itself, sometimes left blank) | 16.60.17.110 |
| CNAME | www | yourname.modulefest.uk |
- If there is already an A record for
@or a record forwww, change it rather than adding a second one. - If there are AAAA records for
@orwww, delete them. They point at your old website and would send some visitors there. - Leave your email records alone (MX, and TXT records mentioning spf, dkim or dmarc). Your email keeps working exactly as it does now.
- Using Cloudflare? Set both records to DNS only (grey cloud) until we’ve told you the switch is done.
3. Check, then connect
Back in the wizard, press Check my records. It looks them up there and then, ticks each one that is right, and tells you exactly what to fix if one isn’t. Changes usually show within an hour (occasionally up to a day), so you can come back and check again.
When everything is ticked, press Connect my domain. We set up the security certificate (https) and move your website, usually within two working days, and email you when it’s done. The wizard shows where things stand in the meantime.
After that, yourname.modulefest.uk keeps working and sends visitors to your own domain, so old links and bookmarks still work. Your dashboard moves to yourbusiness.co.uk/wp-admin/.
Had a website on that domain before? It stops showing as soon as the records change, so move anything you want to keep first. Emails from your website still come from bookings@modulefest.uk under your business name, with replies to you.
