📺 TV / Foyer Display

The TV Display is a full-screen dashboard for a wall-mounted screen in your clubhouse foyer. It auto-refreshes and shows live data from your club.

Available panels include today’s bookings, the duty rota, notices, upcoming events (only events whose “Visible to” ticks include Members or Volunteers — admin-only items never appear on the foyer screen), weather, photos, news and the 🌳 Club Officials org chart.

A Panel spacing slider on the TV settings page controls the padding around and between all panels (0–40px) — nudge it up for a more spacious look on a large screen, or down to fit more on.

Getting Started

1. Go to Bookings → TV Display and scroll to the Panel Layout Builder.
2. Drag panels from the palette strip at the bottom onto the canvas columns above.
3. Click ⤢ Preview full screen in the canvas header — this saves your settings and opens the display in a new tab.
4. On your foyer screen, bookmark that URL and open it full-screen (F11 on most browsers).

Panel Layout Builder

• The canvas shows a dark TV preview with columns, a top ticker bar, and a bottom ticker bar
• Drag panels from the palette (below the canvas) onto any column to add them
• Drag between columns or within a column to reorder. ✕ removes, 👁 toggles visibility
• The News Ticker panels go in the top or bottom full-width bar zones only
• Use ⬜ Blank Spacer panels to hold space in a column without showing content
• ↺ Reset layout clears the canvas and restores the default 3×3 arrangement

Panel Sizes / Span

Each panel has a size selector:

• 1×1 Normal — equal share of the column height
• ↕ Tall (2 rows) — takes twice as much height (blue left border in builder)
• ↕↕ Fill column — expands to fill all remaining space (purple left border)
• ↔ Wide (2 cols) — visually spans the full column width (amber left border)

Column widths

Under Layout, after choosing how many columns you want, you can set each column’s share of the screen width as a percentage — for example a 25% / 75% split for a narrow left column and a wide right one. The percentages must total 100% (a running total is shown), or use Reset to equal for a standard even grid. The builder columns and the live TV screen both follow the split.

Available Panels

Core panels: Rink Bookings, Duty Stewards, Club Notices, Upcoming Events, Weather Forecast, Photo Slideshow, News Stories, Active Poll, News Ticker (top/bottom).

Extra panels (drag in as needed): Green Status, Large Clock, Welcome Message, Competition Results, League Table, Weekly Rota, Member Milestones, Member Portal QR Code, Honours Board, Event Countdown, Club Stats, Club Logo, Live TV.

Background

Choose Solid colour, Gradient (two colours with direction), or a Background image from your media library with adjustable dark overlay.

Welcome Message Panel

Set the heading, body text, text colour and background colour in the Welcome Message Panel section of TV Settings.

Club Logo Panel

Upload a dedicated panel logo in TV Settings → Club Logo → Logo panel image. Falls back to the general club logo, then the Pavilion logo.

Live TV

Show a live channel as a panel. Add the Live TV panel from the layout builder (it works best at Fill or Wide size), then pick a stream in TV Settings → Live TV. There are one-click presets for free, official broadcaster streams — NDTV 24×7, S4C (Wales), Bloomberg TV, Al Jazeera English, DW News, France 24, TRT World, NHK World and VOA. Whether each one plays depends on your connection (a stream has to allow in-browser playback, and some are region-locked), so use Test stream to see which load — NDTV and S4C are the most reliable from the UK. You can also paste any HLS (.m3u8) URL, an official embed page, or a YouTube live link, then test it. Use the Test stream button to check a URL actually loads before you save it. The stream starts muted by default (browsers require muted video to autoplay); untick “Start muted” if your screen allows sound. Mainstream UK channels (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, GB News) protect and region-lock their streams, so they can’t legally or reliably be embedded in a web page. For guaranteed UK channels on the screen, use a cheap streaming stick (Fire TV, Roku) or the TV’s own Freely / Freeview Play / Samsung TV Plus app on a separate HDMI input. Note: showing a live broadcast channel at the club counts as watching live TV and needs a TV Licence at the premises.

Columns

Choose 2, 3, 4, or 5 columns. 3 is standard for a widescreen TV. Changing the count in the builder adds or removes columns instantly.

Common questions

How do I get the TV display URL?

Go to Bookings → TV Display and click “Open Live Display” at the top right, or use the ⤢ Preview button in the canvas header. Copy the whole link — it carries a display key, because the screen on the wall has no login of its own.

Why does the display link have a long code on the end?

That is the key that lets the screen in. Without it the page shows what today’s bookings are, every member’s name, and the duty rota to anybody at all who guesses the address — so treat the link like the clubhouse door key. Signed-in officers can open the screen without it. If the link ever gets out, an administrator can clear the pvl_tv_key setting to issue a new one.

Why do my panel changes not save?

Use the ⤢ Preview button in the canvas header — it saves before opening. Or click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the page.

Can I show a news ticker at the top and bottom?

Yes — drop “News Ticker (top bar)” into the top zone and “News Ticker (bottom bar)” into the bottom zone independently.

Can I show live TV like a news channel?

Yes — add the “Live TV” panel, then in TV Settings → Live TV pick a preset (NDTV, S4C, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, DW, France 24, TRT World, NHK World, VOA) and use Test stream to find which load from your connection, or paste your own HLS (.m3u8) URL. Mainstream UK channels (BBC, ITV, C4, Sky, GB News) protect/region-lock their streams so can’t be embedded in a web page — for those, use a streaming stick or the TV’s built-in apps on a separate HDMI input. Showing a live broadcast channel at the club needs a TV Licence at the premises.

How do I set the Welcome Message text?

In TV Settings, scroll to the Welcome Message Panel section. Use the rich-text editor for the body.

Why does the weather panel show nothing?

The club location (lat/lng) must be set in Settings → Club → General. The weather is fetched live from Open-Meteo.

How do I make a panel taller?

Select the size dropdown on the panel card in the builder canvas. Choose “↕ Tall (2 rows)” or “↕↕ Fill column”.
