The sixty-day window for clubs that already had Pavilion

Before the plans existed, every club that had installed Pavilion had all of it. Switching the plans on would otherwise have taken the accounts away from a treasurer in the middle of a financial year, and the till away from a bar on a Saturday, for a billing reason nobody had told them about. That is not a licensing decision, it is an outage.

So a club that was already running Pavilion when the plans arrived keeps every feature for sixty days from the update that introduced them. Nothing padlocks in that time. It is room to read what the plans are, decide, buy if you want to and have the licence land — not a countdown to anything being taken away.

Who gets the window

Only an install that was already carrying the club’s data. A brand-new install starts on Basic from its first day, which is as it should be — nothing is being taken away from a club that has only just arrived.

How you are told

A banner sits on every Pavilion screen from the first day, counting the days left, with a link to the Licensing screen and to the comparison of the three plans. It turns amber for the last fortnight. It is said early and repeatedly on purpose: the worst version of this would be silence, followed one morning by a padlock.

One thing to watch during the window

The window keeps whatever is installed on the site working — it cannot conjure up code that is not there. So if somebody installs the free Basic download over the top while the window is running, the paid features go straight away, because they are no longer on the site. Take the update that matches what the club already had, or leave the plugin alone until you have decided.

When the sixty days are up

The site moves to whatever the licence says, which is Basic if nothing has been bought. Nothing is deleted then either: the padlocked screens are still listed, still explain themselves, and open again on the club’s own records the day a plan is bought. The window is set once and never renewed, so it does not start again with the next update.

Common questions

How many days have we got left?

The banner on any Pavilion screen says, and counts down. When it stops appearing, the window has closed.

We do not want to buy anything. Do we have to do something?

No. Ignore it. On the sixtieth day the site becomes Basic and carries on — bookings, the rota, members, applications, renewals, leavers and the reports are all free, for ever.

We bought a plan on day two. Does the window still matter?

Only in that you keep everything until it closes, whatever you bought. After that the licence decides — so a club that bought Standard will see the Premium screens padlock when the window ends, and should not be surprised by it.

Does the window start again when we next update?

No. It is worked out once, on the update that introduced the plans, and never renewed.
