Cashing up on the steward tablet
The whole of cashing up now happens on the steward tablet itself, on top of the dashboard. It used to be a link that dropped whoever was counting into wp-admin — sidebar, admin bar, small type, and no back button worth the name on a tablet screwed to a wall. Nothing about that was a tablet experience, and the counting is the moment you least want somebody hunting for a way back.
1Tap Cash up
The button on the dashboard shows what the till says should be in the drawer, or nothing open if no session is running. Tapping it opens the panel; the dashboard stays behind it.

2More than one till?
If the club counts more than one drawer separately, the panel asks which one first. A club with a single till never sees this step.

3Nothing open yet?
The panel offers to open the till instead of refusing. Count your starting change, enter it as the float, and the till starts taking money.

4Money in or out during the session
Takings to the safe, change fetched, somebody paid out of the drawer — Cash in / out records it. Skipping this is far and away the commonest reason a drawer looks short at the end when nothing at all is wrong.

5Count the drawer
Enter how many of each note and coin. Each line shows its own value, the counted total builds as you type, and the difference against what the till expects updates with it — green when it balances, red when it is short, amber when it is over.

The difference is on screen throughout, so nobody is doing arithmetic in their head.

7Close and print
Closing writes the Z report and shows it straight away in the same panel, with a Print button underneath. The printout is the report on its own — the dashboard behind it is not printed.
The Z report is a permanent record from the moment the session closes, and can be reprinted later from Till & Shop → Cashing up.
Common questions
- Who is allowed to cash up?
- Anybody with the cash up permission. It is deliberately separate from being allowed to serve, so a club can let any steward work the till while keeping the count to the two or three people trusted with the drawer. It is also separate from being a WordPress administrator — which is exactly why the tablet has its own cash-up rather than borrowing the officers’ app one, since that is administrators only and would have shut out most of the people who actually do the counting.
- The Cash up button says "nothing open".
- No till session is running. Tap it anyway — the panel offers to open one. The till will not take any money until a session is open, which is deliberate: without a known starting figure there is nothing to reconcile against at the end.
- It warns that the drawer was opened before today.
- Somebody almost certainly forgot to cash up last night rather than the bar having traded through. Check that before you count, because the figures will cover both sessions.
- Can I still cash up from the admin screens?
- Yes. Nothing has been taken away — Till & Shop → Cashing up works exactly as before and is still the place to look at past sessions and reprint old Z reports. The tablet panel is for the person standing at the drawer.
- Printing gives a blank page.
- Fixed in 9.99.204. Printing now builds its own small document and prints that, rather than trying to hide the rest of the admin screen and print what is left. The earlier approach depended on this page being the one the browser was printing, which it is not when the dashboard is being viewed inside the tablet preview — so the printer got a page with everything on it hidden, and produced nothing.
- What exactly gets printed?
- Only the panel that is open, on its own sheet, with your club name and the date at the top and the time it was printed at the bottom. The dashboard behind it, the WordPress admin bar and the sidebar are all left off. Before 9.99.201 this came out as a small block in the middle of the first page followed by a run of blank ones — the page behind was being hidden in a way that still took up its space on paper. If you still see that, you are on an older version.
- What about petty cash spent out of the drawer?
- The tablet panel does not ask for receipts line by line; record those on the full cashing-up screen under Till & Shop, which does. On the tablet, use Cash in / out with a reason instead, which keeps the drawer right.
