Website settings, explained

Settings → Website. Where Pavilion appears on your club’s site. Everything it does on the public side happens through a shortcode on a page, and this screen is the list of them with a button to make each page for you.

🧩 What a shortcode is

A short piece of text in square brackets, like [pvl_join], that you put on an ordinary page. When somebody views the page, Pavilion replaces it with the real thing — the join form, the booking grid, the members’ app. Nothing else on the page is affected, so a shortcode can sit under your own words and photographs.

🛠 Make it

Beside anything not yet made. It creates a page with the right shortcode on it and nothing else, published and ready. Faster than doing it by hand and it cannot be typed wrongly — a shortcode with a letter out of place shows as plain text on the live site, which is the usual reason a club reports that “the booking page is broken”.

🖥 Full screen, or with your theme

Where you are offered the choice, it matters.

• Full screen — no header, menu or footer. Right for the members’ app, the officers’ app and the till, which are apps rather than web pages and should not have a club website wrapped round them on a phone.
• With your theme — normal page furniture. Right for anything a visitor might arrive at from the website: the join form, the fixtures, the events calendar.

The sign-in page, the till and the two apps are always full screen; there is no sensible other answer for them.

📱 The members’ app page

Set explicitly, or left to work itself out. Explicit is better once the club has settled: it is the address used for the app’s home-screen icon and its offline behaviour, and a club with an old copy of the shortcode on a forgotten draft page can otherwise find the app pointing at the wrong one.

🔎 On your site

The link beside each. Worth clicking once for each page after setup — a shortcode on an unpublished page, or on a page the theme hides from the menu, looks perfectly correct on this screen and is invisible to members.

Common questions

I put the shortcode on a page and it shows as text.

Almost always a typo, a curly quote pasted from a document, or the shortcode sitting inside a code block. Delete it and use the Make it button instead.

Can I put two on one page?

Yes for most of them. Not for the apps or the till, which take over the page by design.

We already made these pages by hand.

Then this screen will find them — it looks for the shortcode rather than for pages it made itself, so pages you created are recognised and linked.

What if I delete one of these pages?

The button comes back and you can make it again. Nothing is lost: the data lives in Pavilion, and the page is only a window onto it.
