Notification settings, explained

Settings → Notifications. These are the alerts that appear in the members’ app and on a phone’s lock screen — not emails, which are set under Reminders and Emails.

✏️ Title and body

Each kind of notification has a title and a line of body text, and both can be rewritten in your club’s own words. The variables listed above the box are filled in when it is sent, so {date} becomes the actual date. Anything you do not recognise, leave alone — a variable typed wrongly is printed literally to the member.

📱 Keep them short

A phone shows roughly the first sixty characters of the title and a line or two of the body before cutting it off. The preview underneath shows what will actually be seen. A notification that has to be opened to make sense is one people stop opening.

↩️ Reset to default

Beside every box. Puts back the wording Pavilion ships with, one notification at a time, so an experiment costs nothing.

👤 Member opt-outs

The lower panel lists members who have turned something off for themselves, and what. It is read-only on purpose: a member who has said they do not want match alerts should not have that quietly undone by an officer. Its use is answering “why didn’t I get told?” — which is nearly always this, and now takes ten seconds to check.

Common questions

What is the difference between these and the email reminders?: These are app notifications — instant, short, and only reaching members who have the app installed and have allowed them. Reminders are emails, which reach everybody with an address. Most clubs want both for the things that matter and neither for the things that do not.
A member says they get nothing.: Check the opt-out list first. If they are not on it, it is usually that notifications were never allowed on the phone itself, which is a setting on the device rather than in Pavilion — they can turn it on from the app.
Can I switch one off for everybody?: Yes — each has an on/off beside it. That is different from a member opting out, and overrides it: off is off for the whole club.
