The weekly digest, explained

Settings → Digest. One email a week to the people running the club, so that nobody has to remember to go and look.

📧 What it is for

Everything on it is already on a screen somewhere. The point is that a committee member who opens Pavilion once a fortnight sees a rota gap on Thursday morning rather than on Saturday afternoon when nobody has turned up.

👥 Send to

Any address you like, and more than one. Officers usually; some clubs add the green ranger for the maintenance lines. It is a plain email, so it forwards fine.

🕐 Day and time

Pick the morning somebody would act on it. A Thursday digest gives two days to fill a Saturday rota gap; a Monday one is a report on what already went wrong. Sending it during a working morning also means the reply lands while people are at a keyboard.

☑️ What goes in it

Tick only what your club acts on. A digest listing nine things nobody reads is one people learn to ignore, and then they miss the rota gap too. Two or three sections that always matter beat everything switched on.

📨 Send test now

Sends this week’s digest immediately to the same addresses. Worth doing once after setting it up — partly to check it arrives, and partly because seeing it is how you find out which sections your club actually wants.

Common questions

It has not arrived.

Check it is switched on and that the next send time shown at the top is in the future. If the test arrives but the scheduled one does not, it is nearly always a quiet site — WordPress schedules run on visits, so a site nobody opens runs nothing. Ask your host about a real cron.

Can members get it?

It is meant for the people running the club and includes things members should not see. For members, use a newsletter or the noticeboard.

Can we have two, on different days?

Not at present — one digest, one schedule, one list of addresses.
