🧠Setting up the till for the first time
Going from no till at all to serving your first pint. Allow half an hour; most of it is deciding your prices.
1Run the setup wizard
Go to Till & Shop and click 🧙 Run the till setup wizard. Six short steps, applied in one go — and every answer can be changed afterwards.

2Name your tills
Most clubs need only one. Add a second only if another drawer is counted separately, such as a kitchen or shop hatch — each till keeps its own float, its own sales and its own cashing up.

?Decide how you take money
Set your usual starting float, then tick what you actually offer.
Card machine behind the bar Leave Card ticked. The till records the sale as card; you take the money on your own machine and the two are reconciled at cash-up. | Members run a tab Leave On a member’s account ticked. The amount lands on their statement alongside subscriptions and fees. | Members pay less Tick Members pay less than visitors, then set a member price against the relevant items later. |

4VAT — usually leave it off
Most clubs are below the registration threshold. Only tick this if your club is genuinely VAT registered; if you are unsure, ask your treasurer rather than guessing. When it is on, prices are treated as VAT-inclusive, exactly as a bar price list works.

5Set the receipt wording and a PIN
Your club name prints automatically; add your address or charity number underneath if you want it. Then set a short staff PIN — the tablet stays logged in all day, so the PIN is what stops a passer-by ringing up a sale.

6Choose a starter price list
Tick whichever of bar, soft drinks, snacks, green fees and club shop your club sells. Pavilion lays down typical items at round prices for you to edit. Nothing is duplicated — anything already on your list is skipped.

7Correct your prices
Go to Price list and work down it. Change the prices to yours, delete what you do not sell, and add what is missing. This is the one step nobody can do for you.

8Put the till on a tablet
Create a page, paste in the
[pvl_pos_till] shortcode and publish it. Open that page on the tablet, log in once to a steward account, and add it to the home screen.↓
9Ready
Open the till with its float and take your first sale. Everything from here is covered by the other guides.
💡 Tip: Do not try to get the price list perfect before you start. Get the twenty things you sell most on there, start serving, and add the rest as they come up.
Common questions
- Do I have to use the starter price lists?
- Not at all — leave them all unticked and add your own items from scratch. They exist purely to save typing; the prices in them are round numbers, not a recommendation.
- Can I re-run the wizard later?
- Yes, as often as you like. It never deletes anything and never duplicates an item that already exists by name, so re-running it to pick up a price list you skipped is perfectly safe.
- What if we do not have a tablet?
- The till works on any browser — a laptop or an old phone behind the bar is fine. It is simply designed with big buttons because a tablet is the most common choice.
- Does the till need its own login for each steward?
- No. The device is logged in once to a steward account and everyone shares it, with the PIN controlling access. The person recorded against each sale is whoever the device is logged in as.
