🧭 Getting your members into the app

You have imported your members and the app is set up. Nobody is using it. This is the run from there to a club that actually opens it.

1Understand what you are looking at
Importing created a WordPress account for every member with a password nobody knows — not them, not you, not us. That is the whole problem, and it is why the app looks like it “does not work”. Nothing is broken; nobody has been told how to get in. The App invitations button on the members list carries a count of members who have never signed in, so you can see the size of it at a glance.
2Check the app is worth arriving at
Before you invite anybody, open Settings → Devices → Member App and set the app name, your club colours and logo. A member who taps a link and lands on something that looks like your club will keep it; one who lands on something generic will not.
3Fill in the missing email addresses
Go to Members → App Invitations and look at the “no email address” figure. Those members cannot be invited at all. Chase the addresses now — it is much easier than explaining later why some people got an email and others did not.
4Send the invitations
Same screen. Leave the scope on “everybody who has never signed in”, check the number, and send. Each member gets a one-time link that lets them choose their own password and drops them straight into the app.
5Say something about it as well
An invitation gets people in; it does not persuade them to bother. Write one email campaign — what the app does, that there is nothing to install from an app store — and put the {app_install} tag in it for the QR code and install steps. Sent the same week, the two together work far better than either alone.
?A week later, look again
The screen now shows who has signed in and whose link is still sitting unopened.
Most have signed in → you are done. Invite each new member as they join, from their own profile.
Lots have not → the usual reasons are that the email went to spam or was not understood. Mention it at the club, and send another to anybody still outstanding — a fresh link costs nothing.
7Have something for them to do in it
A member who opens the app, finds nothing happening and closes it will not open it twice. Make sure the booking grid is live, the noticeboard has something on it, and the coaching tutorials are switched on — that last one gives every new bowler a reason to come back to it all season.
💡 Tip: The members with no email address are not a lost cause: print the app QR code from Settings → Devices and hand it to them at the club. They can scan it, and then use “lost your password” to set one.
