How many people a rota slot needs

Two things decide it, and the slot wins.

• Each role carries a normal number under Rota → Roles — a Duty Steward role set to two means every steward slot asks for two unless told otherwise.
• Each slot can override it. The 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 buttons on the Add slot form set the figure for that day only, which is what you want for a busy Saturday or a quiet Tuesday.

It is a request, not a limit. A slot asking for two will happily take a third if you add one: a role’s figure tells the club what it is aiming for, and stops the software arguing with a steward who knows the day better than it does.

Common questions

I chose 2 and it only wanted 1.

Fixed in 9.99.240. The choice was being sent and then dropped — there was nowhere to store it, so the slot fell back to its role. Slots created before that release still follow their role; set the role to the right number, or delete and re-add the slot.

Add another says the duty is already covered.

Also fixed in 9.99.240. The check that stops two members claiming the last place was being applied to the rota manager as well, so the button offered something the site then refused. It now applies only to members claiming their own duty.

Can a member claim a place on a full duty?

No, and that is deliberate. Two members with the screen open, both tapping Claim on a one-person duty thirty seconds apart, would otherwise both get it and both get the email — while a genuinely empty slot went unnoticed.
