The rink sheet as a file

Next to Rink sheet on the Duty Steward toolbar there is now a PDF button. Same sheet, same layout, handed back as a file instead of going to the printer.

📄 Why both

Printing is the right answer most days — the sheet lives on a clipboard by the door and gets written on. But a secretary who wants Saturday’s sheet in an email on Thursday had no way to get one, and the usual advice of “print to PDF instead” works on every device except the tablet by the door, which is the device this is printed from.

🗓 It follows the day on screen

Move to another date and the button follows. So next Saturday’s sheet can be produced today and sent to whoever is opening up.

🚧 A closed rink says so

Closures are shaded and labelled with the reason rather than left blank. That is the one way this sheet could actively mislead somebody: a rink that is shut and a rink that nobody has booked look identical if both are empty boxes, and the sheet is the thing people write names onto.

📐 The grid does not move

Columns are measured from the number of rinks and stay put, so the sheet looks the same every day and a name too long for its box is shortened rather than allowed to push the grid about. A long day runs onto a second page with the headings repeated, and a session is never split across a page break.

No extra software is needed — Pavilion writes the PDF itself, the same way it writes the Excel exports.

Where does it save?

Wherever your browser puts downloads, named for the date — rink-sheet-2026-08-15.pdf — so a season of them sorts itself.

Can I still just print it?

Yes, and on the day that is usually quicker. The two buttons sit side by side and produce the same sheet.

Some names are cut short with dots.

The column was too narrow for that name. It is deliberate: the alternative is a column that widens for one long name and shifts everything else across, so the sheet looks different every day. Clubs with a lot of rinks get narrower columns, so this shows up more on a six-rink green than a four.

Can members get it?

No. It needs the bookings permission, the same as the Duty Steward screen it sits on.
