Licensing — which plan the club is on

Pavilion → Tools → Licensing answers three questions in one place: which plan the club is on, which package is installed on this site, and exactly which features that adds up to. It is the definitive list — everything else, including this help, is a summary of it.

What the screen shows

At the top, the club’s current plan and a line saying which of the three packages is installed here. Below that, a card for each plan listing every feature in it with a tick against the ones this club can use today and a padlock against the rest, so you can see what you have, what you have not, and what the difference would buy. The cards are built from Pavilion’s own list of features, so anything added in a later release appears there on its own — there is nothing on this screen to keep up to date by hand.

Buying a plan

Plans, prices and payment are on the ModuleFest store. The Licensing screen has a button through to it; buy there and come back, and this site picks the licence up by itself. Nothing to copy across, and no card details ever touch the club’s website.

Changing plan, updating a card or cancelling all happen in the same place. The button says Manage your plan once the club is on a paid one.

“Registered — Basic (free)”

A club on Basic may see a licence key of its own on this screen, marked Registered — Basic (free). That is not a purchase and nothing is being charged for it. It is simply a record that this site exists, which is how updates and support find their way here, and it is created automatically — there is nothing to do with it and nothing to cancel.

Because it is not a purchase, the screen carries on offering Fetch my licence and the box for pasting a key in. Buy a plan whenever you are ready, press Fetch my licence, and the paid one takes over; the free record is left alone underneath and stops mattering. If you would rather not press anything, the site checks once a day by itself and will pick the new plan up within twenty-four hours.

Entering a key by hand

Fetch my licence pulls the key from the club’s account with nothing to type, and is the button to use first. If you would rather paste a key in, the box below it takes one and Activate applies it. A paid key binds to this site’s address and takes up a seat, so Deactivate on this site is what to press before moving the club to a new domain — it frees the seat for the new site. That button only appears on a plan the club has bought; there is no seat to free on a free registration, so it is not offered there. Re-check now asks the hub again straight away, and Pavilion re-checks once a day on its own in any case.

Renewals and lapses

An active licence keeps working through brief spells when the hub cannot be reached, and for a short grace period past its expiry date, so a renewal that goes through a day late costs the club nothing. Putting the plans on the club website

The [pvl_feature_comparison] shortcode drops a full Basic, Standard and Premium comparison onto any WordPress page — a public “compare plans” page, say. It builds itself from the same list of features as the Licensing screen, so it cannot go stale. Optional attributes: title, pricing_url, order_url and show_cta.

The demo

Licensing never applies to a site running in demo mode. Everything is switched on there, and no key is asked for or shown.

Common questions

Do we need a licence key at all?

Only for Standard and Premium. Basic is free and needs nothing — a club that never buys anything is never asked for a key.

We are on Basic, so why does the screen show us a licence key?

Because the club is registered with us, which is what lets updates and support reach this site. It is marked “Registered — Basic (free)”, it costs nothing, and there is no card behind it. Buying a plan later replaces it — you do not need to remove it first.

We bought a plan but the screen still says Basic.

Press Fetch my licence on the Licensing screen — it asks what the club is entitled to now, rather than re-checking the free registration the site is already holding. Left alone it sorts itself out within a day, since the site checks once daily on its own.

The screen says the licence hub is not configured.

The site is not linked to the hub yet, so activation has nowhere to go. Link it under Settings → Integrations → Licence & updates link, then come back and try again.
