Booked on two rinks at once

If somebody is already down to play at that time on another rink, the booking screen says so before it saves — naming the rink and the time of the booking they already have.

It is a warning, not a refusal. There are real reasons to hold two rinks at the same time: a captain covering a friendly, somebody holding a rink for a visiting side. Press book it as well and it goes through.

The check looks at both ends of the question — bookings that person made, and bookings somebody else made with that person named as a player. Being named on two rinks at once is as impossible as booking them.

Common questions

Why warn instead of just refusing?

Because a fair number of double bookings are deliberate, and a club whose software refuses something it should not is a club that stops trusting the software. The warning catches the three cases that are almost always mistakes — a double tap, somebody forgetting they had already booked, and a steward taking the same call twice — and gets out of the way for everything else.

It warned about somebody I only named as a player.

Correct, and worth checking. If they are down on two rinks at the same time, one of the two bookings is expecting somebody who cannot be there.

Does it look at cancelled bookings?

No. Only confirmed ones, so a slot somebody has already given up never warns.

What counts as the same time?

Any overlap at all, not only an exact match. A booking from two until four clashes with one from three until five.
