🎭 Demo Data

Demo Data lets you load sample members, bookings, rota, matches, notices, member groups, newsletters and bulk email so you can explore Pavilion before entering your real club data. Everything created is tracked and can be removed in one click.

The demo members are deliberately a full picture — ages from twenty-nine to eighty-four, joining dates from this season back to forty-one years ago, committee roles, coaches and key holders, home towns and newsletter preferences — so the features that read those fields have something to show. In particular every member group the demo ships has real members in it: a group that came back empty would look broken rather than instructive.

The newsletter section writes real sample PDFs, so the archive, the Download button and the notify-members flow all actually work rather than being buttons that do nothing. Removing the demo deletes those files again, and only ever deletes the groups the demo itself created — anything you have set up yourself is left alone.

Loading Demo Data

Access demo data from two places:

• Setup Wizard → Demo Data step — choose a booking period (1–8 weeks) and member count (5–30), then click Save & Continue
• Settings → System → Demo Data — the full demo data management panel with per-section control

What Gets Created

• Members — demo members across different membership types (full, winter, social, honorary). Count is configurable in the wizard.
• Bookings — spread across the selected period (1, 2, 4, or 8 weeks starting from this Tuesday). ~4 bookings per week.
• Rota slots — Tue–Sun across 4× the booking period, with volunteer assignments
• Friendly matches — 8 matches with full scorecards
• Leagues & competitions — a triples league and a singles ladder (with teams/players, generated fixtures and some results) plus an 8-player knockout competition with a first round played
• Guest log, Noticeboard notices, Public hire booking
• Rinks — 6 numbered rinks, only if no rinks already exist
• Accounts (bank rec) — 13 ledger entries created specifically so you can test bank reconciliation.

Bank reconciliation playback

On the Demo Data page there is a ⬇ Download example bank statement (CSV) button. Install the Accounts (bank rec) section first, then download the statement and import it under Accounts → Banking. The file is built to line up with the seeded ledger, so most lines auto-match on the Reconcile tab — and a few are left unmatched on purpose so you can practise “Create entry” and confirming matches.

Removing Demo Data

Go to Settings → System → Demo Data. Every item created by the demo loader is tracked. Click Remove Demo Data to delete everything in one go — no real data is affected.

Common questions

Will demo data be mixed in with my real data?

Yes — demo members appear in the member list, demo bookings in the bookings grid, and so on. This is intentional so you can see how everything looks. Remove it via Settings → System → Demo Data when you are ready to go live.

Can I choose what demo data to load?

In Settings → System → Demo Data you can tick individual sections (Members, Bookings, Rota, etc.) before installing. In the wizard you choose the booking period and member count.

I loaded demo data in the wizard — can I load more?

Yes — go to Settings → System → Demo Data and install additional sections. Already-installed sections are skipped automatically.

How many demo bookings will I get?

Approximately 4 per week. Choosing 2 weeks gives ~8 bookings; 4 weeks gives ~16; 8 weeks gives ~32.

How do I test bank reconciliation?

Install the “Accounts (bank rec)” section, then click “Download example bank statement (CSV)” on the same page. Import that file under Accounts → Banking and reconcile it — most lines auto-match the seeded ledger.
