๐ฆ Banking โ Statement Import
The Banking tab brings your bank statement into Pavilion so it can be checked off against the ledger on the Reconcile tab. Importing does not change your ledger โ it just stores the bank lines ready to match.
Importing a statement
Click โฌ Import statement to open the 3-step wizard:
- Upload โ choose a CSV file exported from your online banking, or paste the CSV text. Give the statement a name (e.g. “Barclays โ April 2026”) so you can recognise it later.
- Map columns โ tell Pavilion which column holds the date, description, reference and amount. Pick the date format (UK statements are usually DD/MM/YYYY). Amounts can be a single signed column or separate Money In / Money Out columns โ Pavilion tries to guess this for you from the headings.
- Preview โ check the rows look right, then click Import.
Duplicate protection
Each line is fingerprinted on its date, amount, description and reference. If you re-import an overlapping statement, lines you already have are skipped automatically and counted as duplicates.
The stat cards
- Imported lines โ total bank lines stored.
- Unmatched โ not yet reconciled (waiting on the Reconcile tab).
- Matched โ linked to a ledger entry.
- Ignored โ deliberately set aside.
Deleting a statement
Use the ๐ icon next to an imported statement to remove the whole batch. Any ledger entries that were matched to it are left in place but un-reconciled, so you can match them again.
Automatic bank sync
Live daily sync via Open Banking (TrueLayer, Plaid, GoCardless Bank Account Data) is on the roadmap but not enabled on this site. CSV import is the supported method โ every UK bank lets you export a statement as CSV.
Trying it out
Install the Accounts (bank rec) demo section in Settings โ System โ Demo Data, then download the example bank statement from that same page and import it here to see the whole flow working.
Common questions
- Will importing change my ledger?
- No. Importing only stores the bank lines. Your ledger is only touched when you confirm a match or create an entry on the Reconcile tab.
- My bank exports separate "Paid in" and "Paid out" columns โ is that OK?
- Yes. On the Map columns step choose “Separate money in / out” and pick each column. Pavilion usually detects this automatically.
- The dates came in wrong โ why?
- The date format on step 2 probably needs changing. UK statements are normally DD/MM/YYYY; US-style files are MM/DD/YYYY.
- Can I import a PDF or OFX/QIF file?
- Not yet โ please export your statement as CSV, which all UK online banking supports.
