Customer groups

A group is a description, not a list: “postcode starts BS”, “last visit more than a year ago”, “has an overdue invoice”. TradePro works out who is in it every time it is used — on screen, on the customer record and when a newsletter goes — so it is never out of date. You can also pick customers by hand to always include, and take anybody out. Anybody who has unsubscribed is always left out of newsletters, whatever group they are in.

For example: Make a group “Boiler service due”: every rule true, Last visit was more than 330 days ago, and Has a job whose title contains “service”. Send it a reminder newsletter in October; next October the same group finds next year’s customers by itself.

Spørsmål folk stiller

Every rule or any rule?
“Every rule” narrows the group down (postcode BS and opted in). “Any rule” widens it (postcode BS or postcode BA). Customers you pick by hand are in either way.

Can someone be in more than one group?
Yes. A newsletter sent to two groups still reaches each person once.

Do I need their permission?
Marketing emails need either the customer’s opt-in or, for existing customers, an easy way to say no. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link. For the safest choice, add the rule “Happy to get news and offers is Yes”.

What happens if I delete a group?
Only the group goes. The customers stay, and so do newsletters already sent.
