🔗 Unlinked Media Files

Unlinked media files are attachments that exist in your WordPress Media Library but are not referenced anywhere on your site — no post content, no featured image, no widget, no shortcode, no page builder block.

Media Library Manager checks every file against 15+ detection rules including direct URLs, Gutenberg blocks, Elementor data, ACF fields, srcset variants, and widget meta.

What to do with unlinked files:

  • Review — some files may be legitimately kept (downloadable assets, archived content)
  • Move to Recycle Bin — staged for deletion after the retention period
  • Permanently Delete — immediate, irreversible removal
  • Ignore — exclude from all future scans permanently

Vragen die mensen stellen

A file shows as unlinked but I can see it on my site — why?
The file may be referenced inside a custom plugin, a theme template, or a page builder format Media Library Manager does not yet detect. Use the Ignore function to exclude it from future scans.

Will deleting unlinked files break anything?
If Media Library Manager correctly identified the file as unlinked, no. If unsure, move it to the Recycle Bin first — it remains recoverable until the retention period expires.

How often should I scan?
Use Auto-Scan to run scans automatically. For active sites with frequent content changes, daily is recommended. Smaller sites can use weekly.

Can I filter the results by file type or date?
Yes — use the filter bar above the results table to filter by MIME type, date range, folder, tag, or keyword.
