Your country: currency, tax, phones and maps
Settings → General → Country tells Pet Central where the business is. Choosing a country and saving sets these to that country’s usual ones:
- Currency, where the symbol goes, and how numbers are written (1,234.50 or 1.234,50 or 1 234,50).
- Tax: its name (VAT, GST, sales tax…) and whether your prices already include it (UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand) or it is added on top (US, Canada).
- Phone numbers: the country code put in front of a local mobile number for texts and WhatsApp.
- Distance: miles or kilometres for rounds and mileage.
Any of them can be changed on its own afterwards, and stays as you set it until the country is changed again.
The country also decides two things that have no separate setting: when your tax year starts (6 April in the UK, 1 July in Australia, 1 January in most places), used by Team earnings; and how addresses are found on the map. In the UK a postcode is looked up with postcodes.io; anywhere else with OpenStreetMap, using the postcode or, if there is none, the address line.
FAQ
My country is not in the list.
Pick the nearest one, then set the currency, tax and phone code yourself on the General, Payments, Invoicing and Messaging tabs. Tell us which country you need and it can be added.
Do old invoices change if I change the tax setting?
No. An invoice keeps the amounts it was saved with. The setting decides how new invoices, and invoices you edit, are worked out.
