Outcomes & targets — What outcomes are for

An outcome is what a pupil is working towards. Big ones usually come from the EHCP; smaller stepping stones are IEP targets. Record where the pupil is starting from and what success will look like, so progress can be judged consistently by anyone.

Outcomes are grouped by the four SEND Code of Practice areas of need, plus independence and other.

A shared measure is an outcome with no pupil attached. Because it isn’t tied to one child, evidence from any pupil can be tagged against it — handy for a whole-school assessment framework or a shared curriculum. A measure’s page shows its evidence grouped by pupil.
