Recording costs
Finance → Expenses is where business costs go — shampoo, fuel, insurance, van repairs, venue hire.
Each has a date, amount, category and supplier. Tax can be recorded separately where you need it for a return.
Where you run more than one service you can tag a cost to one of them. Leave it as whole business for anything that spans everything, which is most things: insurance and software are not really grooming costs or walking costs.
Costs feed straight into your reports, so a month’s figures are complete without keeping a separate list anywhere.
Example
A walker logs fuel weekly and a van service in March; the year-end figures are already done when the accountant asks.
FAQ
Should I tag everything to a service?
No. Only tag a cost that genuinely belongs to one — clipper blades to grooming, say. Insurance and software belong to the business.
What about mileage?
There is a separate Mileage screen for that, since it is worked out per mile rather than as a single amount.
Can I import a year of costs?
Yes — the import tools take a CSV. Tools → Import.
