The question you answer more than any other is “how long will that dog take, and what do I charge?” The honest answer depends on the coat, not the weight. Two cockapoos the same size can be an hour apart if one is silk and the other is a matted wool.

How it works

Each coat type carries a time multiplier and a surcharge. A full groom priced at 50 for 90 minutes becomes 70 minutes on a smooth coat and 135 minutes on a wool one. Record the coat on the dog’s record and every quote, diary slot and invoice follows it.

Breeds are a starting point

Type a breed on the pet record and the plugin suggests a coat. It is a suggestion — owners often do not know what their dog is, and you will know within ten seconds of seeing it.

The matted coat is its own type

Keep “curly — matted” separate and price it at double. It is the single biggest cause of a salon running an hour late, and quoting it over the phone is how you end up doing a three-hour de-mat for the price of a bath.

Example

A salon that had been pricing by weight moves to coat-based pricing and finds the doodles were being under-charged by about eighteen pounds and forty minutes each, which was most of the reason Saturdays overran.

FAQ

Does this override my service prices?
No. It adjusts them. The service keeps its own base price and duration; the coat adds to both.

Where does the coat actually show up on a booking?
Under Price, as soon as you choose the animal — it names the coat, the surcharge and what the appointment length becomes. The figures themselves are worked out when you save, so the price and the finish time on the saved booking already include it.

It is not adjusting a group walk.
Correct, and deliberately. Several dogs mean several coats and there is no single one to price the booking by, so a group booking is left at the treatment’s own price.

I typed my own price and it stayed.
That is the rule everywhere here: a figure you typed is yours and nothing recalculates over it. Clear the price box and save to hand it back, and the coat and the treatments will work it out again.

What if I do not record a coat?
Then nothing changes and the service price applies as it always did. Ignoring this screen costs you nothing.

The breed guess is wrong for one of mine.
Just set the coat by hand on that dog. The guess only fills in when nothing has been chosen.
