Branding the apps and portal

Under Settings → General you can make the staff app and the customer portal look like your business rather than Pet Central.

  • App name — the name your staff see, and the label under the icon on their phone.
  • Customer app name — what your customers see on the install prompt and under the icon on their home screen. Leave it empty to use your business name.
  • Logo — shown in the staff app header, the customer portal and on your login screen. A square PNG with a transparent background works best.
  • App icon — the icon on the home screen when the staff app is installed. Square, at least 512×512. Leave it empty and your logo is used.
  • Customer app icon — the icon your customers get when they install your portal. Leave it empty to use the same icon as the staff app.
  • Theme colour — buttons, headers and highlights across both apps.
  • Background colour — the splash screen shown while the app opens.

Choosing the part of the image to use: app icons are square on a phone’s home screen, so after picking an image you are shown a cropping step to choose which part becomes the icon. Drag the square to reframe it. A cropped copy is saved and your original image is left untouched, so you can come back and crop it differently later.

Each image has a Reset to default button, which puts the Pet Central artwork back without you needing to hunt for the original file.

Button text automatically switches between black and white depending on how light or dark your colour is, so it always stays readable — you do not have to think about contrast.

If you have already uploaded a logo for your invoices, it is used for the apps too until you choose a different one.

Example

A groomer uploads her logo and sets her colour to deep purple. Her staff install the app and see her logo on their home screen; her customers install the portal and see the same brand, with no mention of Pet Central anywhere.

FAQ

The icon on my phone has not changed.
Phones cache the home-screen icon when the app is installed. Remove the app from the home screen and add it again to pick up the new icon.

What size should the app icon be?
At least 512×512 pixels. It does not need to be square — you will be asked to crop it to a square when you upload. Keep the important part near the middle of your crop, since Android rounds icons into circles on some phones.

Can I change my mind about the crop?
Yes. Choose the image again and crop it differently — the original upload is never altered, so nothing is lost.

How do I go back to the Pet Central artwork?
Use Reset to default beside the image, then save.

Can staff and customers have different icons?
Yes. Set an app icon for staff and a customer app icon for the portal. If you only set one, both use it.

Can the customer app have a different name from the staff app?
Yes. Set an App name for staff and a Customer app name for the portal — useful if staff know it as “Bark HQ” while customers should just see your business name.

Will a pale brand colour make buttons unreadable?
No. The text on coloured buttons switches between black and white automatically based on your colour, so it stays legible either way.

Do I need to upload my logo twice?
No. If you already added a logo for your invoices it is used across the apps as well, until you upload a dedicated one.
